insomnia or sleeping disorder?
my father suffers from insomnia, however he has certain symptoms that i dont understand.
my father will fall asleep at 11 p.m. and wake up at 2 a.m. and is unable to fall back asleep. then he will be sleepy throughout the day and doze off at random times. this will last for 2/3 months twice a year. while it lasts, his personality changes – he gets nervous, defensive, critical and hot-tempered. he starts spending money on cheap, stupid useless things. his blood pressure rises early in the morning (approx. 4 a.m.) then falls back down. he snores horribly, and seems to not be able to breathe at moments. he refuses to take sleeping pills.
the worst thing is the character-change. he gets awfully critical of my mother and me, and will not accept any constructive-critism from us. he takes every comment as an attack. he buys things without asking us.
is this a specific disorder? what could be wrong? i’ve never heard of a similar case – has anyone?
High blood pressure, Insomnia and excessive sleep and erractic behaviour.. more then likely has to do with stress. The mood swings could be due in large part to lack of sleep and his behaviours could be described as (bi-polar or borderline) but not quite certain. It sounds like he is under stress and the amount of stress is causing restleness, mood swings and sleep disturbance..
